Dr. Olusesan A. Makinde

Dr. Makinde is a medical graduate with a master of science in epidemiology and medical statistics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds a second master of science in applied health sciences informatics from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. He is at the final stages of his PhD in Demography and Populations Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. Additionally, he is a certified Project Management Professional and an Oracle 10g Database Administration Certified Professional.

Dr. Makinde has 16 years of combined clinical and public health experience. He has provided consulting services to a wide range of multilateral and international consulting firms which include UNICEF, the World Health Organization, Abt Associates Inc., RTI International, John Snow Inc., Encompass LLC, White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood, Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has also worked with the University College Hospital Ibadan as an intern clinician and with Pro-Health International and Hygeia HMO as Monitoring and Evaluation and Quality Assurance Manager respectively. As part of his work, he has contributed to projects funded by a wide array of donors among which are USAID, CDC, DFID/ UKAID, Global Fund, GAVI, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, European Union, UN Women, Johnson & Johnson, UNITAID, TY Danjuma Foundation & the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Dr. Makinde has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals of repute on several topics, including health systems, demography, child rights, sexual and reproductive health and HIV. He has written a series in international journals to raise the awareness on the rising trend of baby factories in. He has also worked extensively on health information systems in Nigeria including. He is leading innovative ideas at improving the master health facility list in Nigeria with the development of a health facility registry.
